Bygone Christmas - Matchmakers

Christmas time was one of those occasions when my parents indulged themselves and our family with boxes of after dinner style chocolates.

Sometimes they would get theses from distant relatives or church friends.

The chocolates that my parents always wanted and often purchased were Matchmakers.

These twig like sticks of chocolate had nobbly crunchy granules of mint in bedded into them and they were excellent when sucked.

The preferred choice was ‘Cool Mint. Although I can remember munching our way through a box of ‘Zingy' Orange.

There was something special about opening a box, finding the tag that opened the cellophane and diving into the special compartment.

Once started it was very difficult to stop until the compartment was finished off or you felt sick.

The tag line was ‘the manic munch that packs a punch.’

They were certainly very addictive.
