Mothers Day Poem from Dani

Mothers Day Poem from Dani

It was Mothers Day yesterday and our 9 year old daughter gave her mother a lovely hand crafted and decorated card, with her own poem.

It was so beautiful I thought it deserved a special place:-

Hundreds of kisses for a lovely mummy
Hundreds of butterflies flying by

Hundreds of flowers for a mum
Hundreds of paintings drawn for you can you see

Hundreds of happy memories floating by
Hundreds of snowflakes to say “hi”

The word mother is so special to me.

“dearest Santa

Hope your reindeers ant tird because you haft to get round eveyboddys house don’t you?

My name is Danielle

Do you want to write a mesidge.”

“Dearest Danielle, what a special girl you are. Hope you enjoy your presents but don’t forget the greatest present of all was God’s gift to you!

Thanks for the muffin and milk! Yum yum

Great excitement as we discovered the crumbs from the eaten muffin and read the letter together.

Christmas was complete now that Santa had come.

Have a really happy Christmas and may joy, hope, grace and all the blessings of heaven, fill you, overflow to you and pour out of your life now and for ever.

Say I love you with Bananas

How do you declare your love?

Is it with a card?

A present

A note

A text

Flowers

An act of sacrifice

An act of kindness

There are many ways we can show our love

Make someone we love feel special

It doesn’t take much

Now my 8 year old Dani is constantly surprising me

With her innovation

Her latest way to show her love

Was to write it on my Bananas

There in the fruit bowl, covered in little messages

Were her messages of love

HUGS

KISSES

LOVE  SWEETS

ENJOY

LOVE FROM DANIELLE

So every time I picked up a Banana I got a message of love

Wonderful

What a treat

Temptation

A large slice of sticky toffee cake
Custard doughnut
Fiery Dragon cheese on toast, with caramelized onions
Lemon meringue pie

Just another slice
Just one more
Just a little bit more
You deserve it
Go on
Treat yourself
Don’t miss out

Temptation!!

We all know what I’m talking about
We have all been there
We all know the feelings
The racing pulse
Thumping heart
Guilt
Pleasure
Anticipation
Expectation

And sometimes things are just too tempting
especially
If you’re an 8 year old and with a Nintendo DS and a great new game.

Now Dani is very good.
Every night, off to bed.
And straight to sleep.
But……
Last night..
Excitement.
New Game.
Just too much temptation.
Mum heard a noise from the bedroom.
‘Bang’.
‘Zing’.
An hour after putting her to bed.
There she was.
Sitting in bed.
Playing.
The Game.
Caught out
“I’m so sorry.” She said
With sad eyes
And she was.

Every day we are faced with temptations
Some big
Some small
Those moments when we can open a door
Which we should leave closed.

Letting God’s word fill our mind
Living from the fullness of our spirit
United with Christ
Enjoying his unmerited favor
Effortlessly keeps us secure
In God’s grace.

And when the inevitable temptation comes knocking at the door
Grace is there to help
Point us in the right direction
Into all God has provided for us.

The Fourth Emergency Service

Do you realise that there is a fourth emergency service?

I didn’t

Until yesterday

When I was put right by my eight year old daughter Dani.

Now Dani is obsessed with the sound of a siren

It only takes the distant echo of a police or ambulance alarm to get Dani rushing to the nearest window in the expectation of seeing a vehicle with flashing lights.

The other morning

Two ambulances thundered past our house

Setting the street ablaze with a tornado of sound and light.

She ran down the stairs

Opened the curtains

Then dashed out the front door

And watched them disappear into the distance

“Dad, come on let’s see what’s happened, I bet there’s an accident.”

Yesterday as I was driving us home she informed me,

“Dad, we should always let emergency cars out, if they want!”

“Okay,” I replied.

“We should let out,

Police,

Ambulances,

Fire Engines,

And Taxis.”

I almost crashed, Taxis!!

“Taxis, why taxis”

She sighed

Obviously at my ignorance

“Well, taxis might be carrying a Pop Star and the Pop star might be late for a show. And there might be people waiting for the show to start and they might get upset. So we should always let them out so the Pop star isn’t late and the people aren’t upset.”

I looked at her

And smiled

“Okay Dad!”

“Okay darling.”

There you are the fourth emergency service is taxis taking Pop stars to shows.

When disaster strikes

And the sirens start

Where do I run?

Do I run to my own efforts?

My own strength

My fail safe methods for dealing with problems

My own ability

My knowledge

Or do I run to God

Listen to the Holy Spirit inside of me

Pray

Trust

Everything I need God has provided through Christ

I just have to learn to turn to him

And all he has made available

It’s a journey

A process

Little by little

Step by step.
