Psalm 8
1 O Lord, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth!
Your glory is higher than the heavens.
2 You have taught children and infants
to tell of your strength,
silencing your enemies and all who oppose you.
Your glory is higher than the heavens.
2 You have taught children and infants
to tell of your strength,
silencing your enemies and all who oppose you.
3 When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers—
the moon and the stars you set in place—
4 what are mere mortals that you should think about them,
human beings that you should care for them?
5 Yet you made them only a little lower than God
and crowned them with glory and honor.
6 You gave them charge of everything you made,
putting all things under their authority—
7 the flocks and the herds
and all the wild animals,
8 the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea,
and everything that swims the ocean currents.
the moon and the stars you set in place—
4 what are mere mortals that you should think about them,
human beings that you should care for them?
5 Yet you made them only a little lower than God
and crowned them with glory and honor.
6 You gave them charge of everything you made,
putting all things under their authority—
7 the flocks and the herds
and all the wild animals,
8 the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea,
and everything that swims the ocean currents.
9 O Lord, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth!
Sometimes in life we need to get everything into perspective.
Life’s hassles, troubles and trials can wear us down.
I know in my life cares and troubles have a way of creeping up and biting me when I don’t even realize.
That is when I need to focus on the grace of God, my identity In Christ and live out of my God filled spirit.
I can also look at creation and stand amazed at how wonderful my God is.
In Psalm 8 we have 5 awe inspiring truths that lift our eyes and souls to the greatness and grace of God.
1. Your Glory is higher than the heavens – We can gaze into a star filled night and look at galaxies and universes beyond our wildest imaginations. As we gaze at the glory of creation, we can breathe and let the glory that created everything flood our mortal bodies. The same glory that created everything, lives, works and dwells in us. We have the glory of God living inside of us.
2. To tell of your Strength – When we are weak, He is strong. It is his fullness and strength that fills us up. When we come to the end of ourselves he is there in his fullness.
3. Silencing your enemies. – We are the head and not the tail. We have victory over all our enemies, through the finished work of Christ. Not by our strength and works but by his everlasting victory won at Calvary by his blood.
4. You care for us – God loves, cares, delights in us. We are His sheep, his loved ones, His joy, His prized possession. When we look at the stars and the moon we can breathe a sigh of divine contentment. God loves me more than the night sky and all of His creation. I am eternally loved.
5. You have given man charge over everything – I am made in the image of God. I have His authority and I am a child, heir of God adopted into His family. He is my Dad and I am his son. He has placed his spirit inside me and I am united with Christ. One with Him.
Creation shouts and sings the goodness of God.
The night sky tells me I am loved, adored and I have the glory of God living inside of me.
What an amazing, wonderful God we have and it is all through his grace and favour.
