Well it had to happen, as every Everton supporter on the
face of the earth suspected, the wonderful David Moyes made the only decision
that a manager of his ability and talent could make, he leaves the beloved
Toffees for the glamour club Manchester United.
It is with a sad and heavy heart that we say goodbye to a
great manager and I as a lifelong Everton supporter wish him all the best because
he certainly deserves it.
We had many dark days before David Moyes took over in March
2002 and with limited resources, hard work, astute purchases and passion he put
together a very good footballing team that plays in an entertaining and
exciting style. He may not have won all the trophies but no one can deny his
professionalism and his management qualities. He has the hardest act in
football to follow, so I hope that Manchester United supporters are patient and
give him the time he needs to make the job his own.
Where do Everton go from here?
Well it is important for the club to get the right manager.
Roberto Martinez is being mentioned as the favourite and he has done a great
job at Wigan. They play great passing football but Martinez has always had
difficulty with his defending and no one ever gets anywhere unless they have a
solid defence.
I hope we go for someone who knows how to win because when all is said and done, winning by one goal is better than playing beautifully and
losing.
I leave you with David Moyes own words, “Everton's fantastic
fans have played a big part in making my years at Goodison so enjoyable and I
thank them wholeheartedly for the support they have given me and the players. Everton
will be close to me for the rest of my life."
Mr. Moyes will be close to all our hearts and I wish him all
the best.
Martinez would be my favourite, but you are right about the defence bit.
