Twilight Falls

Twilight falls
Owls cry out
From silent valleys
There steals a slice of ancient fear

Rushing sounds
Through the night
The cold breeze presses
As ancient wings kiss the night

Misty silences
In search of power
The fire through ages leaps
Listen for the calm ancient embers

Another autumn
Drawn from day
As footsteps die away
Across ancient roads heralding the dawn.

Whisper Winter’s Secret.

Purple mist
Veils the lonely forest
Shades of bronze
Scattered forlorn leaves
Whisper winter’s secret.

Glowing golden love
Taste the scent of crimson
The silence of trust
For all is laid bare
Whisper winter’s secret.

Amber Ocean
Dancing beads of forgiveness
Curtain lonely fields
As psalms of desire
Whisper winter’s secret

Beautiful Wonder

Feel the world
The anthem of creation
A chasm breached with love
United in one man

Extend your hands
The canvas framed from dust
Each ecstasy of rhythm
Captured In this living moment

Listen to the desire of dance
The divine heart beat
Thundering for the first time
Resonating in freedoms quiet

Hear the life grow louder
A crescendo of the familiar
Gradually heavens glory sings
With each beat of beautiful wonder

The First Heart Beat - Genesis 1:26

Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.” – Genesis 1:26

The heart of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit was to share and enjoy the dance of eternal glory. To reflect the overflowing, wonderful love of the triune Godhead with perfect creation. It was the God head  “Us” that created man in their own image and all the glory of heaven was shared with man.

God stooped down, he put his life, his essence, his creativity, his majesty, his glory into the dust he had made and with all the joyous delight of the triune God he formed man. God immersed the dust into the eternal dance of love and this would not be the only time that God would stoop and kiss our world. He would bring himself down to us by lying in a manger,  work in a carpentry shop, sleep on a mountain side, eat with the forsaken and despised, be spat upon, lied about, be beaten, ridiculed, humiliated, nailed and cut open.

And there in that moment of creation, as man was formed and God’s life was breathed into his body. For the first time in eternity, for the first moment in the joyous dance, God and man waited and listened as the first heart beat sounded on earth, the first heart beat sounded in eternity, and the first heart beat sounded in the frame of man.

Never before had a heart been formed and never before had a heart beat been heard. Creation listened to the life of God flowing through man’s frame of dust, united with glory, perfect, whole, good and heaven had entered into earth.

Stop. Breathe and listen to your heart beat, listen to your breathing, it is the wonder of life, the joy of the creator manifest in dust and alive in your heart.

Listen to the Unheard Promise

Icicles of light
Shattering the granite sky
Listen to the unheard promise
Let the softness of the rain
Cleanse the night

Seek God And Listen by Charles R. Swindoll

Sometimes in the busy activity of life it is good just to stop, be quite and listen to the voice that wants to speak to us. A voice of reassurance, a voice of total commitment, speaking words of forgiveness, words of love, words of grace.

As Charles R. Swindoll encourages us, spend the day in quietness, even in the constant noise of life and listen.

Lamentations 3:25 - "Lord, I'm back and I diligently seek you."

How many times have we said this? This time stop talking and sit silently. Wait patiently, seek diligently, sit silently. That means you need to pour out your heart and then deliberately be quiet. Spend a full day in quietness.

Meditation is a lost art in this modern, hurry-up world. I suggest you revive it. Not by endlessly repeating some mantra to get into some other frame of mind. Not that. Simply and silently wait before your faithful God. Read a passage of Scripture, perhaps a psalm, and let it speak. Say nothing. Just sit silently. Let Him talk. Let Him reassure you that you are fully and completely forgiven and that your shame is gone. Feel His arms around you. Understand the cleansing that He's bringing. Feel again the freshness and relief of His presence.

God will give you a fresh start if you'll stop fighting. It works. I know. I've been there. Just submit to Him and accept His grace.

God will keep His promise to forgive and welcome you home.

His mercies are new every morning.

Sit And Listen To The Rain - Whiskeytown

I love this Whiskeytown song

There is a real feeling of forlorn regret in it, and every time I listen to it conjures images of lost hope,
faded dreams and far horizons.

The magic of the lostness is captured in a few simply lines: -

"i'll never understand this emptiness
i'll never really try to understand i guess"

Sometimes just sitting and listening to the rain is the best feeling in the world.

Sit around dream away the place i'm from
used to feel so much, now i just feel numb
could go out tonight but i ain't sure what for
call a friend or two i don't know anymore

sit and listen to the rain
sit and listen to the rain

gonna ride down to the river where it runs
gonna watch tv and pray for decent reruns
sit around and dream away what i've become (dream away what i've become)
used to feel so much now i just feel dumb

sit and listen to the rain
sit and listen to the rain

i'll never understand this emptiness
i'll never really try to understand i guess
i'll never understand this emptiness
i'll never really try and understand
try and understand, i guess

sit around, dream away the place i'm from
used to feel so much, now i just feel dumb
could go out tonight, but i ain't sure what for
call a friend or two i don't know anymore

sit and listen to the rain
sit and listen to the rain

Listen To Heavens Dream

Waters stirred
Strange shadows over the land
Purple in the deep
And the word ran into the father’s arms
Awakened dreams

Silence listened
Lengthening colours thickened
Stream from lovers wounds
And the passion bursts in veins of grace
Desire loves dream.

Compassion descended
Gathered vibrations trembled
Turning darkness into light
And the whispered voice encompassed hope
Listen to heavens dream.

Let There Be Light - Genesis 1:3

Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light – Genesis 1:3

Before a word was spoken an expectant heavens and a silent earth waited in darkness for a whisper to be heard. Every atom, every speck of dust, every drop of water listened intently for God to utter the words that would begin the dance of creation. Father, Son and Holy Spirit in glorious, joyous union, infinitely satisfied, overflowing with inexhaustible richness, unimaginable goodness, filled with desire to share this beautiful dance.

Before there was a Sun created to shine in the day and a moon to lighten the night, light separated the day from the night. The light was the “Word of God”, the spoken voice in the darkness.  For where the word of God is darkness must disappear. In God there is no darkness only light.

At the end of the book in Revelation 21:23, the apostle John witnesses the New Jerusalem, “And the city has no need of sun or moon, for the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its light. “ From the very first chapter to the last chapter the “Word” of God is a revelation of the lamb slain before the foundation of the world. Christ is the light that illuminates every page, every verse, and every heart and dispels the darkness.

And we join with every atom and wait and listen to every word that Christ has given us. We listen for the whisper into our hearts with the truth and light that illuminates our shadows.  The sound of silence is the sound of expectation, the sound of anticipation, the sound of creation, the sound that echoes throughout eternity and is whispered to anyone who stoops down to listen.

We receive the passionate invitation to join in the creators dance, overwhelmed with His goodness, overflowing with His love and drenched in the riches of his grace.

Bygone Times

Listen to the clear sounded chimes
Through the heartless still air
Over the green fields
As distant church bells ring
Bidding the soul towards heaven’s devotion

Remember the red dahlias
Remember the thrill
Of opened windows
The framed photographs
Of past distant devotion
Of memories flooding back

Listen to the engines whistle
As the rails drum into the night
Round the distant bend
A lost moment of devotion
A chance to reflect on bygone times.

A Year To Listen

Listening is a lost art

We are all surrounded by noise, besieged by commotion; it sometimes seems that every moment of every day, there is a different sound that arouses our attention. Sometimes it seems almost impossible to find silence in everyday life.

From the rustling of sweet papers in the cinema, the tapping of a computer keyboard during a lecture, the cry of a baby in a hushed restaurant each sound is either music to the soul, a dance of the spirit, a missed beat of the heart or perhaps a distraction to the mind.

Memories are full of sounds that have shaped our lives. What we have listened to can help us relive the pleasure of the past. A steam engines whistle, the song of a blackbird, the chimes of a church bell are just some sounds that make my heart remember moments of my childhood.

But more than this, listening is the joy of discovering the wonders of the creation we have been placed into. It is so much more than just hearing a sound or a word it is the art of concentrating and meditating on the communication so that it drops into your heart and changes your perspective.

We have all been in conversations with people where it soon becomes apparent that they are hearing us but not listening to us. Sometimes you can see the clogs whirring inside their minds as they are thinking up a response to our words before we have finished talking.  To get everything from a conversation it is important that we listen to each word and let them ferment inside before we utter a reply. Only by listening can we give the speaker the respect they deserve.

Jesus was the fountain of all truth every word he spoke came direct from the Father’s palace, every parable was a river of wisdom, revealing who he was and the love and grace of his Father. He spoke and those that had ears to hear heard, but those that wanted their hearts renewed listened.

This year I felt a deep sense that Christ was drawing me into a place where I could hear the whisper of his voice above the noise and commotion of everyday life.

Christ is united with me in my spirit, he is with me every second within my heart, he is there and he never leaves me and never forsakes me. In every mundane task, from emptying the rubbish bin, cleaning the office, making kids sandwiches he is constantly whispering his affection and direction into my life. All I need to do is listen to his still, quiet voice in my heart.

Creation is whispering to me, with the sound of leaves rustling on the breeze, the birds singing in the trees. Life is whispering to me, with motorbikes revving up in the street, shopping trolleys jangling on the tarmac. People are whispering to me with smiles to brighten my day and words that encourage my heart.  My family is constantly whispering to me in the commotion of life. My God is whispering to me as I take my every breath.

This year for me needs to be a year where I tune my ears and my heart to listen. To be aware of all the glorious communication that is coming to me for all sources and to be aware and listen to the still quiet whisper within me.

Through this year I hope to share poems, share scriptures, share thoughts, share other’s insights that have blessed and challenged me, share a tapestry of images that all add to the increased awareness of the creation that surrounds me as I listen to its awesome beauty and appreciate its amazing variety.

The Owl

Here was an old owl liv’d in a oak,
The more he heard the less he spoke;
The less he spoke, the more he heard,
O, if men were all like that wise old bird.
